Through the UN Cooperation Framework 2024–2028, the UN system supports national efforts to advance the SDGs, strengthen governance, and promote inclusive and sustainable development.

The United Nations Country Team in Lesotho works closely with the Government and partners to advance national development priorities and accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals. Building on recent achievements, the UN focuses on strengthening institutions, expanding opportunities for communities, and promoting resilient and inclusive development across the country.

A key priority is governance and social equity. The UN supports constitutional and institutional reforms, including the passage of the Omnibus Bill and the establishment of the Human Rights Commission. Efforts also focus on strengthening public sector performance through competency-based recruitment, leadership development and improved public financial management, while supporting national initiatives to prevent and respond to gender-based violence.

Another focus area is tracking Lesotho’s progress on the SDGs. In 2025, the Government of Lesotho will present its Voluntary National Review at the High-Level Political Forum in New York. The UN will provide technical and financial support to help prepare this review and identify policy actions needed to accelerate development progress.

Climate resilience and sustainable development remain central to the UN’s work. Initiatives will promote climate-smart agriculture, strengthen disaster preparedness and expand investment opportunities through the SDG Investor Map, helping communities adapt to climate shocks while attracting private sector investment in key sectors.

The UN also prioritizes health and social protection, supporting the national response to HIV and tuberculosis, including the rollout of long-acting injectable cabotegravir for HIV prevention. Strengthening health systems governance, expanding digital health solutions and improving maternal and newborn care are key elements of this work.

Through the UN Cooperation Framework, the United Nations works with the Government, development partners, civil society and the private sector to mobilize resources and expertise. More than US$300 million will support programmes aimed at improving lives and expanding opportunities across Lesotho, ensuring that development gains reach communities throughout the country.
